Role:   Care Worker (Personal Care) Location:    Healthcare Organisation care homes Hours of work:    Variable according to rota Reports to:  Care Co-ordinator/ Recruitment Consultant/Director Responsibility:         To assist Healthcare organisations within care homes, NHS Hospitals Main Duties:  
  1. Assisting with bodily functions such as:
 
  • Bathing
  • Washing
  • Hair care
  • Shaving
  • Oral hygiene
  • Feeding
  • Toileting
  • Menstruation
  • Changing of incontinence items
  • Medication
 
  1. Care falling just short of assistance with bodily functions, but still involving physical and intimate touching, including activities such as helping a person get out of a bath and helping them to get dressed or undressed.
 
  1. Non physical care, such as advice, encouragement and supervision relating to the above, such as prompting a person to    take a bath and supervising them during this.
 
  1. Household duties include:
 
  • cleaning
  • emptying commodes
  • laundry
  • food preparation
  • reading, writing
 
  1. Complete all required records and documents legibly, accurately, factually, and at the appropriate time.
 
  1. Comply with health and safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  7. Attend quarterly, or as required, supervision sessions with the line manager.  
  1. Attend annual appraisal of progress with line manager.
 
  1. Attend such training courses as are arranged or may be required.
 
  1. Undertake any other duties which may reasonably be required by a senior member of staff, or in the interests of business efficiency, or as required by legislation, regulations or contract requirements.
 
  1. Conduct yourself at all times in ways that will enable the division to meet its aims and objectives and fulfil its obligations.
  11.1   Comply with any codes of conduct which may be issued including that of the Care Certificate, Skills for Care and or General Social Care Council. Duties that Care Workers MUST NOT undertake   Care Workers must not undertake any duties which are normally carried out by a nurse or doctor. This includes:  
  • Giving injections, or taking blood.
  • Inserting suppositories or enemas.
  • Changing dressings.
  • Inserting catheters.
  • Cutting toe nails.
  • Naso-Gastric administration
  • Activities that involve serious risk to health & safety
